Corporate Videos Analysis

London Business School



The London Business School corporate video was very fast paced in its editing and had fast paced music to match, the music had a lot of drum and bass in it so a young audience can relate to it, this adds to the modem style of the piece. They used a montage of business buildings in London to show you where it is, It’s important to show it’s in the capital city as that is where all the business decisions happens.

The piece starts with a tilt shot of trees then pans down to the school. It doesn't look like a school more like a town hall as its looks to me made of white marble and have many columns. They used this shot to make it look inviting and that it’s successful place.

The video lots of close ups and medium close ups of different people that we meant to think are students at London Business School. There is a wide range of ethnicity to appeal to everyone and show they have a diverse culture. These shots were edited quickly together, then cuts to a medium close up of Adam Kingl the program director. He uses the word ‘you’ when describing things about the school, it grabs the viewer’s attention and makes them listen.

In the video there are many interviews with lectures talking about what you are expected to learn there, good mix of men and women and different races. The lectures and people that work there all also refer to it as you will learn this to maintain the viewer’s attention. In all the interviews the person talking are shot in a medium close and to either the right or left of screen. While they are talking there are cuts to other shots of students in lessons and them talking in small groups or individual talks. There is a wide range of different raced people shown and mix of male and females.

I personally felt the whole piece was too long. Viewers would lose interest easy after a few minutes as it is plays the same drum and bass like music in the background on repeat and each different topic talked about is set in the same way which for 10 minute would be samey and boring for the viewer. There is also respected shots of people talking in front of interviews throughout the piece.


Apple Recruitment Video


The Apple Recruitment Video unlike the London Business School video is paced slower indicating the audience aimed for this video would be for slightly older people. The music is electronic like and gives off a nice warm welcoming feeling to the video which attracts the viewer’s attention will keep them watching.

The piece starts off with a close up shot from afar of a sigh saying ‘infinite loop’ then a long shot of the building itself, again this gives off a welcoming affect to the video to keep the viewer interested and watching.

After you hear a voice start talking about the company while shots of the inside of one of the design labs is shown with people talking and writing on the white bored in the room. They then show a median shot of person talking and show to the right of shot who he is and his job within the company, they do this with all the interviews within the piece. By showing that it gives the people interviewed more authority and the viewer would be more likely to listen to what they have to say. There are many shots of people at tables talking while we can still hear whoever is talking voice in the background, they show a good mixture of men and women to show both genders are welcome to the company.

There is also a mixture of different aged people in the video, although the older people are more likely to be interviewed while we see younger people talking in other shots. This is to show anyone of any age is welcome and also the fact that the older looking people are interviewed more that the younger gives the impression they may have been with the company for a long time and knows what they are talking about more than the others.

There is a few interviews with members of the company that speaks other languages and they show subtitles of what is said in English, this shows the company is open to anyone of any race or ethnicity.

Halfway through the video the music changes to a slower piano bit of music to keep the video of interest and saving the music played at the beginning getting annoying or boring.


Holmefield Vets


The Holmefield Vets Video starts off with a shot of their logo and fast paced drumming music. It then cuts to an extreme close up of the person being interviewed, the shot it edited to appear green and with the name and occupation of the interviewee. After that cuts to a coloured close up of the person talking. While interviewee is talking shots of the outside of the building and veterinary surgeons taking good care of some people’s pets. This will show the viewer the treatment their pet will get and in encourage and make them feel better about taking their pet to that vet, knowing they will be treated the same.

There are more women shown then men in this video, mainly because women are more likely to be interested in working with animals then men. Also the animals shown in the video seem to be only cats and dogs, as most people will have one of them two as a pet than anything else. There isn't a wide range of race or ethnicity shown within the piece, but I think this is mainly due to the fact it’s a small building and don’t have that many workers. Also the fact it’s aimed at people with pets so is would focus more animals than anything else.

There is a good mix of ages shown within the video and it was discussed about the amount of experience some of the veterinarian have had saying the newer ones have had more training and know new ways to do things, while the older ones have had more experience. There is also a good age range of pets shown, again showing the viewer any aged pet is welcome if infant or elderly and it’ll still get cared for the same way.

The video is very straight to the point and gives plenty of information for the short amount of time the video runs for. It is also quite welcoming and like the Apple video will keep the viewer interested and watching. They refers to themselves as ‘we’ and also say they are a team to show off that they all work well together in caring for animals.

Meetings

We had a meeting every week as a production team. Sean took minutes. We wanted more footage of the old building but it was knocked down and more interview of the people but they was not available, this was talked about in the meetings.

I did not attend the shoot on the Saturday, I was more invoved in the post production. It was my first time editing, I was a bit unsure on what I was doing but Luke was there helping. You can see me here editing an master shot which was shot on a steady cam. I dragged the footage onto the timeline using cut transitions.
